TENDER 902 EDITIED JEAN JACKET

The 902 Edited Jean Jacket from English brand Tender is a new take on the classic denim jacket.

Tender has its roots in antique workwear and machinery, especially from the Great British Steam Age. On a steam train, the tender was the truck which carried the coal and water to power the locomotive. They were built incredibly well, crafted from soild cast iron, and had to hold enough fuel to take a train weighing many tons all over the country. Tender transfers this well made, important ethos into it's clothing, creating items that are carefully thought out and expertly constructed to last the length of time.

Tender utilises traditional crafting methods alongside exploring new approaches to conventional weaving, making, tanning, and dyeing processes to produce their unque garments, keeping the antique workwear feel but applying a modern twist.

The Edited Jeans Jacket is a simplified version of the Type 901 Pleat Pocket Jeans Jacket, cut straight with a centre back seam. The back panels are brought up and over to the front, forming a smooth biased shoulder which wears particularly comfortably.

The jacket features two large front pockets and a selvedge detailed center back seams which is part of the 16oz denim fabrication. The fabric is woven on vintage shuttle looms giving it a slubby hand feel which offers texture and substance and is finished with a slight "Rinse Wash", allowing the wearer to develop signature wear marks and patina as you would a raw pair of jeans.

The jacket is finished with classic chain-stitching on the hem and hand-cast pewter buttons also made in England.

The 902 Edited Jacket showcases a multitude of classic denim jacket influences, from styling to fabrication.

Japan introduced the world to indigo dye, and set the groundwork for the origin of denim. Denim was used specifically as chore coats for firemen known as "Hanten", and Japan is still one of the most renowned makers of denim in the world to this day.

The iconic denim jacket silhouette was first introduced circa 1880 by Levi's founder Levi Strauss. The first denim jacket was what is classified as the "Levi Blouse (506)" and was a durable, breathable item for cowboys, railroad engineers, and miners to wear during the gold rush era.

The Tender 902 mimics many design features from the inconic Levi's "Type 2" jacket which was introduced in 1958. A The short cut style that retained the overall shape of the original Levi Blouse Jacket, but incorporated two front pockets.

With only a short production run of 9 years, the Type 2 became a cult classic silhouette and many brands draw influence from this particular style when designing their own versions of the classic denim jacket.

From James Dean to Paul Newman, John Lennon to Bruce Springsteen, the denim jacket is a quintessential piece of menswear that has been worn by everyone from superstars to rail-road workers and is still as important today as it ever has been.
