Edwin started life as a company that imported American denim into Japan as company founder K. K. Tsunemi was fed up with wearing low quality Japanese denim that was in abundance at the time. Mr Tsunemi’s obsession with all things denim eventually led him to purchasing an old loom and manufacturing his own jeans. The name Edwin derives from an anagram of the word denim, with the ‘m’ being flipped upside down to resemble a ‘w’. The company is now an extremely important player within the worldwide jeans manufacturing business, producing some of the highest quality denim available. Edwin is also famous for being one of the only remaining brands in the world that dye their denim with natural indigo. This results in a much more organic fade, something that denim lovers obsess over.
