Conkers has become one of our favourite discoveries at Peggs & son, the kind of small, artisan label that reminds you why independent retail still matters. Founded in 2021 by Oliver Warner, and now run alongside partner Romina Ferrari, Conkers draws its inspiration from the British countryside and classic English pursuits, working almost exclusively with dead stock fabrics. Warner, who cut his teeth at Our Legacy and Studio Nicholson, prefers to call himself a garment designer rather than a fashion designer, and it shows: five years in, production remains tiny, with some pieces made in runs of just 15 or 16.
This season's standout is the Farmer Shirt, woven from 100% Irish linen flax developed with Emblem Weavers in Wexford, prized for its open weave and softness after washing. It comes in two contrasting checks, a dark olive with navy running through it, and a striking red and pink. Both are cut in a wide, boxy fit with a six-button front finished in casein (milk protein) buttons made by a small Cotswolds button factory.
Only a small amount of these shirts exist worldwide, so they tend not to hang around long. Alongside it, the Potters Pant is cut from a neppy denim woven on the same Blackburn Northrop looms once used by Cone Mills for the original 501s.
