The Button Up Cardigan
The Button Up Cardigan is a true menswear staple, beloved and versatile, and the perfect relaxed layering piece in the depths of winter. With luxe fabrics such as cashmere and merino, plus subtle detailing in the placket and neckline, we have some great examples in store this season.
One of our perennial favourites is the Wool Fleece Cardigan from Universal Works. The thick recycled wool blend is highly insulating and has a great laid back structure. Year in year out, we love this piece, and the shop floor team have multiple iterations in their wardrobe across many seasons.

The Polo Knit
The Polo Knit traces its lineage back to sportswear origins, and today still retains a casual feel. We love the short buttoned placket and sharp collar, and we think the style lends itself particularly well to woolen knitwear.
For us, one of the standout examples comes from Pittari. Cut from 100% lambswool, the soft, dense handle has been paired with minimal details to let the fabric and cut show. Other great examples this season are the Geelong Polo from Stone Island, that utilises Geelong wool from Australian sheep that has a handle that easily rivals cashmere. It is also well worth taking a look at the lighter weight, finer gauge offerings from Beams Plus and Another Aspect.

the crewneck
The Crewneck Knit is simplicity personified, but there is no doubt about its credentials as a winter wardrobe workhorse. Serving the same purpose as its cousin, the sportswear influenced cotton sweatshirt, we have a fine selection of crewneck knits in store this season.
A highlight has to be the Birth of the Cool from Belgium based label Howlin’. Cut in Scotland from 100% pure new wool, it has a soft brushed handle and comes in a great selection of bold colourways. Howlin’ have kept things simple with a versatile regular fit and ribbed detailing on the collar, cuffs, and hem.

The Chunky Knit
Does anything get the knitwear lover’s heart racing more than the idea of sitting fireside on a cold winter’s day ensconced in a big Chunky Knit? The Rollneck Sweater from Inis Meáin is the thing knitwear dreams are made of. Cut from 100% cashmere on the small Irish island of Inis Meáin, it is thick, impossibly soft, with a big proper chunk rollneck collar.
On a similar, if slightly more streamlined, tip is the Source Knit, made in France by Arpenteur. With a healthy amount of cashmere used in the blend for an added touch of luxe, we love the weight of the fabric and soft handle. There’s a reason this is such a shop floor favourite.

THE FULL ZIP KNIT
Last up we have the Full Zip Knit, a style that feels like a contemporary take on the Button Up Knit. Once again these lean into a relaxed feel, and a favourite for us is the Ian Cardigan from Pittari. Available in three colourways, it utlises a triangular weave pattern and subtle boucle in the yarns.
The Universal Works offering, the aptly named Zip Cardigan, uses a much smoother texture and finer gauge weave, and the autumnal tawny colourway is paired with a two-way zip fastened placket and two open pockets on the hips.
