Sunray Sportswear SS25

Sunray Sportswear – Spring Restocks & Seasonal Pigment Dyed Arrivals

At Peggs & son, Sunray Sportswear is a perennial favourite. Each season, their classic jersey pieces return to our rails, and each season they remind us why slow, traditional craftsmanship always wins.

Sunray garments are made in Japan by a near century-old, family-owned producer using heritage circular knitting machines. These machines knit without creating any side seams and without applying the tension found in modern production, resulting in a garment that drapes beautifully, wears evenly, and resists warping over time. In fact, thanks to an eight-hour washing process, Sunray t-shirts are almost impossible to shrink or misshape. They’re the kind of quality tees that used to be commonplace, before speed overtook substance in the apparel industry.

This spring, alongside our usual restocks of key Sunray styles, we’ve also received a new batch of seasonal product with a story worth sharing. These new pieces have been pigment dyed by Mr Sasaki, a master craftsman based just outside Kyoto, whose speciality lies in using pigment as a painter might use oils. Unlike conventional dyeing methods where colour is absorbed into the fibres, pigment dyeing leaves colour sitting on the surface of the fabric, allowing each piece to evolve with time and wear.

Every scrape, every wash, every day you wear it, the t-shirt tells a new story. The result is a garment that feels alive: constantly shifting, softening, and deepening in tone. Mr Sasaki has spent over three decades refining his own ionising solution to prepare fabric for this unique dyeing method, giving each piece a richness and vibrancy that can’t be replicated.

This season’s pigment palette draws from the gentle tones found in nature - specifically, the soft hues of sand dunes and the grasses that grow across them. These earthy, tonal colours feel especially well-suited to the longer days and lighter moods of spring.

We’ve chosen every available seasonal shade because, quite simply, we couldn’t pick a favourite. Whether you’re restocking a wardrobe staple or after something a little more expressive, Sunray’s Spring collection brings a uniquely Japanese sense of craft and colour. A t-shirt that can’t shrink, won’t twist, and only gets better with time? It’s worth having a few of those in rotation.
