For Ian Peggs, few brands make sweatshirts quite like Buzz Rickson’s. Founded in Japan in 1993, the label is renowned for its meticulous approach to vintage military clothing, recreating historic garments with an extraordinary level of accuracy. Inspired by original 1940s US Navy training sweatshirts, Buzz Rickson’s combines traditional manufacturing techniques, original machinery and carefully researched details to produce sweatshirts that are as close to the originals as possible.
The fabric is woven on vintage circular knitting machines dating back to the 1920s, creating a distinctive slubby texture on the outside and an exceptionally soft, deeply brushed interior. Traditional four-needle flatlock stitching gives the seams a smooth, comfortable finish, while the vintage V-neck, deep ribbed cuffs and hem, and period-inspired neck label complete the design. Every detail serves a purpose, reflecting a time when clothing was made with longevity and functionality in mind. Available in classic shades including grey, olive, navy, black and oatmeal, Buzz Rickson’s sweatshirts are an investment in quality rather than passing trends. For Ian, the real proof is in their longevity: he still wears a sweatshirt that is over 20 years old. It's this combination of heritage, craftsmanship and everyday wearability that makes Buzz Rickson’s one of his all-time favourites, and a benchmark for what a well-made sweatshirt should be.
